1, 2, 3: Big Sky, Montana Destination Guide

Today, our destination guide series “1, 2, 3” is taking you to Big Sky, Montana, where travel journalist @KatherineParkerMagyar has shared her favorite spots to frequent when visiting the Mountain West haven👇

To stay:

Lone Mountain Ranch (@lonemountainranch) is the place to stay in Big Sky, Montana, for an immersive (and authentic) Western experience. A member of National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World, the ranch is home to excellent dining and horseback riding, as well as gorgeous cabins outfitted with antlers and cowboy hats galore.

To eat:

The Riverhouse (@riverhouse_bbq_events): Head to The Riverhouse for some unbelievable barbecue, as well as some of the best outdoor seating. (Always a plus during these COVID-centric times.)

The Corral is a Big Sky original, with a wonderful down-home Montana vibe with a delicious (and hearty) breakfast and tasty burgers. For travelers looking for a drink, the Corral is a favorite watering hole for visitors and locals alike.

To visit:

Big Sky Resort (@bigskyresort): Since the Alps aren’t available this winter, why not look for equally spectacular skiing in the USA? And when in Big Sky, you’d be remiss not to hit the slopes, as the vertical terrain is sure to satisfy even the most discerning skiers and snowboarders. May the powder be with you.

Lone Mountain Peak: The peak at Lone Mountain is simply iconic and must be observed—whether it’s by foot, or by car. (Or even by tram). Check out the scenic drive up to Lone Mountain, and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the iconic splendor of the American West.

Yellowstone National Park: Last, but certainly not least, a visit to Yellowstone is mandatory any time of year. Take the Lone Mountain Scenic Drive to the western entrance–a mere 50-minute drive from your cabin in Big Sky. Sign up for a snowmobile safari in the wintertime, and if there isn’t snow on the ground, take a hike through the park’s famous canyons—a prime example of the natural beauty and diversity that truly makes America great.
