“Life in plastic, it’s fantastic,” especially when you’re Barbie and Ken checking into one of these very pink, posh hotels that all deserve a starring role in Greta Gerwig’s anticipated film if you ask us. Mattel’s power couple is apparently ditching Barbieland in search of a life more well-lived—along with true happiness—and we can already think of a few accommodating hosts who would be happy to have them…in Malibu and beyond.
The Surfrider (Malibu, CA)
Across the street from the world-famous Surfrider Beach, this 20-key boutique hotel is what California dreams are made of—especially for Malibu Barbie. The kitschy-cool sanctuary has been a haven for celebs, artists, and wave chasers since the ‘50s and feels like the chicest beach house you’ve ever encountered, thanks to woven hammocks, artisan treasures, and a sun-drenched cascade of light you can only find in the Golden State. The guests-only rooftop restaurant is also a fan favorite for its unbeatable vantage point and a locally-sourced menu that includes everything from a farmers’ market-filled grazing board to Apres Surf smoothies.
The Don CeSar (St Pete Beach, FL)
Set on powder-fine, white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, The Don CeSar is a Mediterranean-style castle that resembles a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse, making it the perfect refuge for the famous toy couple. The “Pink Palace” of St. Pete Beach opened its doors back in 1928—and has welcomed everyone from Clarence Darrow to F. Scott Fitzgerald in its heyday—but a cluster of newly renovated Beach House Suites, plus six restaurants and a members club, are just a few of the reasons to visit today. They also offer daily yoga and aerobics classes, which seems very much on-brand for a Barbie-inspired stay.
The Colony Hotel (Palm Beach, FL)
Barbie and Ken may have a never-ending list of haute California compounds to choose from when booking a romantic getaway, but when in Florida there’s one hotel that seems tailor-made for them, and that’s Palm Beach’s “Pink Paradise,” The Colony. With a rotating roster of designer pop-up shops, a scene-y poolside restaurant (Swifty’s), and a staff willing to cater to your every need, this is the kind of place we would easily trade in our camper van for and move right in. Between the Matouk linens, Ladurée macaron turndown service, and complimentary (pink) golf cart ride into town, we can’t imagine Barbie living her best life anywhere else.
The Beverly Hills Hotel (Beverly Hills, CA)
For rare occasions, Barbie and Ken aren’t beach-bound, but in Cali, there’s the Beverly Hills Hotel—a glamorous city escape less than an hour from Malibu. With Rodeo Drive right next door to source new accessories from—and the top salons to touch up those Barbie blonde highlights—this iconic Hollywood hideaway has all the bells and whistles you need for an A-list holiday from a red carpet entryway to opulent guest rooms and suites shrouded by lush gardens.
The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki (Honolulu, HI)
Even if you weren’t exactly up to speed on Barbie’s preferred modes of transportation—besides her convertible and camper—chances are you know she loved a luxe Hawaiian vacation, which is why we’re shining the spotlight on the Spanish-Moorish style Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. This Honolulu-based resort offers private beachfront cabanas, unrivaled views of Diamond Head, and an array of outdoor activities, but it’s the prestige suites that really seal the “royal living” deal for us.
Graduate Nashville (Nashville, TN)
If throwing a Barbiecore-theme pool party is on your bucket list soon, look no further than the Graduate Nashville to live out that fantasy. White Limozeen is their 50-shades-of-pink rooftop bar and restaurant that features fuchsia-trimmed umbrellas and daybeds, a rosy onyx bar, and a magenta-hued Queen of the Rodeo drink, but we’d be remiss not to mention the hotel’s “9 to 5” suite—an ode to Dolly Parton that encompasses the country queen’s glitzy demeanor with disco ball-tiled ceilings, pink feathers, and a California King waterbed we’re pretty sure Barbie and Ken would approve of.
Carlton Hotel St. Moritz (St. Moritz, Switzerland)
Last but not least, we had to include a winter wonderland destination for “Alpine Barbie.” We’re honestly not even sure St. Mortiz glam would exist without the fashion icon and her on-the-slopes style, but we are sure she would only stay in the Carlo Rampazzi-designed Corner Junior Suite on a sojourn to the Swiss Alps with Ken. With chaises, chairs, and cozy nooks awash in blush tones, they have majestic mountain vibes down to a science—and clearly, this is a place to play out the greatest love story of all time. This hotel is part of Leading Hotels of the World.
