We Love These Wellness-Centric Hotels in America

Looking to rejuvenate without a passport? Well, you’re in luck — we’ve rounded up our favorite wellness-centric hotels across the USA.

Post Ranch Inn (Big Sur, California)

The uber-luxe cliffside property — which boasts just 39 rooms — is known as one of the most stunning hotels in the country (if not the planet). The renowned spa offers an array of soothing treatments, services (think astrology, crystal and gemstone therapy, etc.), and even private shaman sessions. After your treatment, retreat to your electronic-free room and warm up under the fireplace, take a dip in the hot tub, or sprawl out on your private deck. (Or, head to one of the two on-site, cliffside infinity pools.) Amenities include yoga classes, guided nature walks, sound meditation, and stargazing.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney’s Resort & Spa  (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Nestled within the Arizona desert, this 53-acre property is the perfect place to escape from the hustle-and-bustle of reality — or what is the darkness of 2020. From the minimalist-inspired decor to the stunning scenery, to the sprawling spa (but more on that later), this Scottsdale oasis is one-of-a-kind in every sense of the word. The 109-room resort also boasts an award-winning spa, which is home to a meditation garden, reflection pond, and a labyrinth. In addition to facials, massages, and other treatments, guests can also enjoy reiki therapy and/or acupuncture.

Miraval Berkshires (The Berkshires, Massachusetts)

The brand-new Berkshires property (which opened in July 2020) is a wellness enthusiast’s paradise — from the farm-to-table food to the Asian-inspired spa, to the poolside labyrinth. Guests here have plenty of enriching activities to choose from, including equine therapy, beekeeping (yes, really), cooking demonstrations, ziplining, and yoga, to name a few. The property also offers educational lectures (think astrology, energy healing, and other topics). No visit is complete without a visit to the Life in Balance Spa, which offers a range of services like Ayurveda, body treatments, apothecary, reiki, and massages.

Blackberry Mountain (Walland, Tennessee)

Blackberry Mountain, part of Relais & Chateaux, in Tennessee is one of the Southeastern United States’ most lauded wellness-centric hotels. Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains’ elevated peaks and undulating hills, this rustic-chic stay encourages superlative rejuvenation seances: aerial yoga, sound-bathing, art classes that ignite mindfulness & sense of place, plus the Nest Spa and its slew of treatments like the Kaolin Clay Wrap, which includes a detoxifying clay mask and warm oil application, having you leave soothed and radiant.

Sensei Lanai, a Four Seasons Resort (Lanai, Hawaii)

This crème-de-la-crème wellness resort on the uncrowded Hawaiian island of Lanai sits in a former hunting lodge, where it’s shrouded in Japanese-style gardens freckled with eclectic art. The hotel’s Guided Sensei Experience is multi-faceted: You start with a pre-voyage questionnaire that assesses your trip goals, then wellness specialists curate personalized itineraries with various one-on-one sessions and experiences catered towards your intentions, from sleep improvement to dietary changes. You’ll get access to many classes and receive $600 daily credit towards experiences of your choice, from a private yoga session to thermal body mapping. Embark on an eye-opening, one-on-one session with an embodied psychologist, who explains the mind & body connection. With this, guests undergo a guided meditation while hooked up to a heart-rate monitor — upon completion and opening their eyes, they can see how the practice & its breathing techniques resonated with their body. It would be amiss if we didn’t talk about the gorgeous hales, where treatments such as massages and facials happen — they are individual Hawaiian-style houses that each open to a calming private spring and waterfall where guests can lounge and soak after their session.

Bishop’s Lodge (Santa Fe, New Mexico)

New Mexico’s capital Santa Fe is full of pueblo-style edifices housing galleries, shops, and restaurants. One could say it’s the American Southwest’s most charming towns. Located here is Bishop’s Lodge, a five-star stay with a Southwestern-style aesthetic inside and out (think terracotta exteriors, Navajo-woven rugs, and wooden beams). Wellness- and spa-wise, you can choose from a wide selection of treatments: Gem therapy, shaman-guided sound healing, Qi Gong classes, seasonal scrub sessions, and meditative bath soaks are all on the menu.
