The Most Iconic Hotel in St. Barts Lives Up to the Hype

The French-speaking Caribbean island of St. Barts is synonymous with glamor and has a reputation as one of the most sought-after holiday hotspots in the world. Imagine France in the tropics. White-sand beaches, turquoise water, and lush jungle create a posh playground for well-heeled jetsetters to let loose and unwind.

So, where do travelers with cash to splash (and endless options) drop their bags after flying in on a Tradewind flight? Eden Rock – St Barths, a living legend since the 1950s. There’s simply nowhere more iconic. The signature Eden Rock red distinguishes the hotel, whether you’re seeing the rooftops while cruising the hillsides in a Moke or being greeted by a smiling, polo-clad valet standing out front.

From the first impression to au revoir, the dedicated staff pulls out all the stops to make guests feel completely carefree. Rémy de Haenen originally built the property as a residence and that home-but-better spirit still exists today—only with a larger footprint and loads more panache. It’s hard, verging on impossible, to pull off exclusive and easygoing—but nothing is impossible at Eden Rock – St Barths. Want caviar delivered to your room? How about a last-minute table at the hottest club? Ask the concierge and consider it done. Not that you have any reason to leave when a vibey bar, gourmet cuisine, a gorgeous beach, chic accommodations, and a standout spa are all on-site.

Dressed in Eden Rock red toile, plush seating, and gilded accents, Rémy Bar & Salon (named after the founder) is the chicest spot to sip bespoke tipples like the clarified passion fruit margarita as well as classic cocktails. The decor and music call for slinky dresses with a little glitz (if you haven’t packed anything befitting of the occasion, head to the boutique to pick up a fashionable frock), while the atmosphere begs for bare feet and wave-tousled hair.

Drinks extend into dinner at the Sand Bar, where world-famous Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has conceived of a menu that starts with caviar egg toast, features local mahi with passionfruit sauce as a main course, and ends with homemade ice cream. Breakfast is served in the same breezy space. There’s a spread of pastries, cereal, cured meat, and cheese, plus a full selection of fresh-pressed juices, coffee drinks, made-to-order eggs, pancakes, and healthy bowls. During the day, the guest-only beach bar is the place to be for frosé, frolicking in clear water, savoring fresh ceviche, and lazing on red-and-white striped sun loungers.

The rooms, suites, and villas—which are perched on top of the rock or along the beach—ooze island-style quiet luxury. Shades of white and sand set a serene mood. Welcome treats include personalized pouches (perfect for stashing sunscreen) and a chilled bottle of Krug. Curated art—whether that’s a colorful painting of palm trees and hummingbirds or a pair of aerial beach photographs—infuses Caribbean flair.

Other accents such as rattan headboards, pottery, and woven baskets reinforce the sense of place. Bathrooms are stocked with Dr. Barbara Sturm products, plush robes, and Eden Rock red nail polish. Turndown amenities continue the theme of anticipating every need. You might return at the end of the evening to find a branded wet bag with a note encouraging a last-minute dip in the sea or a leather passport case as a fond reminder of a memorable stay. Some accommodations have outdoor patios with plunge pools, loungers, and sofas. The lull of the waves is a blissful soundtrack.

Dr. Barbara Sturm’s formulas also power the facials at the spa. There are manicures (obviously, you’ve got to go with the Idalmi St Barth custom red for the hotel), innovative medi-spa treatments in partnership with Dr. Pierre-Michel Havet, and frangipani-scented massages as well. Because what’s paradise without a major dose of pampering?
