There are plenty of hotels suitable to serve as a sleeping space for a surely full itinerary while visiting Washington, D.C.

But Hotel Washington stands out. On its website, the hotel bills itself as “simply monumental,” after staying there, we’d say that’s an accurate description.

The hotel, which opened its doors in 1917, is not just a place to lay your head at night but something of a destination itself.

Hotel Washington’s exterior is grand. Its location makes the hotel desirable all on its own. It’s as if the capitol unfurls from Hotel Washington’s doorstep: Hotel Washington is situated steps from the White House and The Washington Monument, with Smithsonian museums nearby.

Stepping inside, guests will find a space that is not only comfortable and chic but one that is an urban oasis with a great deal to offer.

Within the walls of the 326 rooms and suites, the beds are comfortable, the showers are lovely, and the decor is cute with details like DC-themed wallpaper in the bathroom, cherry blossom-esque designs around the bed, and green accent furniture.

Once past the entrance that boasts an illuminated water wall with the Hotel Washington logo, guests will find multiple eateries and bars, including a recently opened restaurant and a stunning rooftop. The hotel also has a dreamy spa and a 24-hour fitness center.

The hotel’s dining spaces include its Lobby Bar, which serves breakfast, drinks, and dinner and is characterized by plush velvet and tufted leather furnishings with violet lighting coloring the scene.

There’s also The Patio at Hotel Washington, which is an al fresco option that serves American fare as DC bustles around diners outdoors.

And this fall, a new restaurant opened within the hotel. Fireclay embraces an open-fire cooking method and is headed up by executive chef Israel Lopez-Albarracin, who has experience cooking with fire. The restaurant, which focuses on what’s in season, serves a full menu ranging from appetizers to main courses that are mouthwatering even to read, with options like Tuna Crudo, Autumn Baby Kale Salad, Wagyu New York Strip Steak, the Fireclay Burger and S’mores Cake for dessert.

And the tastebud delights don’t stop at Fireclay. They rise to another level at Vue, the hotel’s rooftop bar. While the spectacular view of The Washington Monument at Vue is undoubtedly the main attraction, the food and drinks are sure to please, too.

With all its bells and whistles, Hotel Washington is going to be at the top of our list the next time we start to plan a trip to D.C.
