This Modern Mallorca Luxury Resort Is Where European Summer Unfolds

Tucked away slightly inland from the marina in Calvía, the Kimpton Aysla Mallorca evokes the essence of quiet luxury. For young twenty-somethings, this isn’t the kind of place to come to Mallorca and party; rather, it’s the type of stay you come to for some sophisticated R&R.

The hotel’s main spaces are composed of coastal-inspired details and Spanish-inspired architecture. Contrasting this light and airy design, the guestrooms are housed in brutalist, concrete-washed edifice buildings.

However, this adds a modern appeal to the beachy fashion of its interiors. A homey aura is imbued with woven rattan chairs and lamps, neutral-hued furnishings, and splashes of colorful artworks placed in see-through bookshelves in its guestrooms and common areas.

Its design-savvy Maison Codage Spa is where luxurious Maison Codage serums and oils are infused into massages and facials. Tea is served post-treatment, and you sit in the mint green-colored nail salon. As you sit poolside, the estheticians come out and spray you with refreshing Codage products and offer cooling towelettes—talk about a classy touch.

The two outdoor swimming pools—separated for adults-only time and family-friendly activities—allow everyone to enjoy their vacation in an inclusive way. Adult guests can kick back and relax on one side of the centerpiece Zayt pool bar and eatery, avoiding the riff-raff of younger families. However, we can promise that this hotel is where the cool moms and dads are bringing their little ones to enjoy a getaway, so you’re not running into the everyday tourist bringing their family to the kid-friendly resort.

As for the food and drink, the hotel provides a combination of cuisines to best suit its guests: English breakfast ingredients, including eggs, toast, pastries, and breakfast meats and cheeses, are served buffet-style; Spanish-Mediterranean food comes to life at Zayt, an all-day outdoor restaurant, and bar with Margherita pizza, refreshing libations, and more; and Saba Restaurant & Bar offers Korean-Japanese cuisine at night. (We showed up right before closing, and the staff kindly served us regardless of the time. Not to mention, the nigiri and sashimi were top-notch.)

Classic dishes like Anchovas (Cantabrian anchovies), Ensalada de Salmón Ahumado (salmon salad with seasonal tomato, pine nut vinaigrette, and arugula), and Gazpacho (cold tomato soup) appear on the lunch menu at Zayt, served from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For dessert, there’s a Pannacotta de Mango, comprising mango pannacotta with white chocolate streusel and raspberry sorbet, which made our taste buds tingle just thinking about it.

From sunrise yoga to Pilates classes and an expansive gym equipped with high-quality training equipment and machinery, you can rest assured that you’ll get your blood flowing on this trip. In fact, looking at the gym and seeing how nice it is will make you want to get in there and get a sweat in. (Due to my short trip, I skipped packing the workout set, and I regretted it deeply.)

Dreams of Mallorca’s piercing turquoise-blue Balearic coves come to life at its neighboring beaches, including Playa del Mago. Here, the salty sea touches your lips, and the water is the ideal temperature for one to swim in it all day. You hear whispers of different languages around you, making English speakers truly feel that they’ve landed in Europe.

Needless to say, guests at the Kimpton Aysla Mallorca will depart feeling refreshed and fully immersed in the essence of a European summer.
