This New American Restaurant Is Inspired By the South of France

The neighborhood cafés of Nice have found their way to Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, thanks to Neeloo, the family-owned-and-run New American, French-inspired restaurant.

Humble traditions inspired the concept, helmed by partners Per Se alum Christophe Moser and Claudio Angelli. Neeloo fuses the dishes of Moser’s childhood upbringing in the south of France with his 25 years in the hospitality industry in both Florida and New York City.

Similar to the camaraderie provided by the Moser family Morkie dogs who inspired the restaurant name––Neo and Leeloo––this is truly a place for loved ones to gather over a warm and intimate meal. This endeavor is entirely run by the Moser family (and close friends).

Seasoned New York chef Kevin Rojas steps up as Chef de Cuisine, with previous experience at the Brooklyn mainstay Olmsted, where he first crossed paths with Sean Moser, Christophe’s son, who now joins him as Sous Chef. Diners are greeted by Moser’s wife, Gaëlle, and daughter, Isabella. Christophe himself can be found mixing cocktails behind the expansive bar, while even the waitstaff are eager to give their recommendations and strike up a conversation.

The menu leans heavily in favor of seafood, with dishes ranging from Grilled Octopus with confit tomato, almond, and radicchio; Hearth Broiled Wellfleet Oysters; and Halibut with grilled beans, swiss chard, green tomato, and coconut broth. Vegetarian options abound as well, such as Golden Beet & Persimmons and Marinated Eggplant & Patty Pan Squash. For those craving a heartier option, split an order of American Wagyu Sirloin. Complete your meal with the Baked Alaska, which is as fantastic of an indulgence as it is to witness the tableside presentation.

Neeloo’s wine program offers an approachable array of European producers from coastal regions and islands. The proximity of these growing regions to the sea results in fresher wines with more salinity. From sparkling to skin contact options, there is a pour for every palate.

Marlena Todd of Marlena Design Atelier is responsible for the interiors, which honor the original structure while revitalizing the space with minimalistic, modern elements. Simple yet warm light fixtures are suspended from the ceiling, illuminating the black-and-white tiled floors, exposed brick walls, and pops of turquoise on the table legs and bar tiles.

Whether you live in the neighborhood or are just meeting a friend, pull up a seat and kick back for a casual evening at Neeloo.
