This Expansive 29-acre Oasis in Cancun Is a Boutique Hotel Dream

Cancun is all grown up at Nizuc Resort & Spa. Forget everything you thought you knew about the collegiate spring break destination; Nizuc’s sweeping 29-acre property is the very picture of sophistication and is the setting for your most romantic, relaxing vacation yet.

While Cancun’s zona hotelera (or hotel zone) plays host to a wide range of large resorts, Nizuc is made unique by the intimacy of its experience. While the property is vast, it somehow feels immensely private, with long halls in the main building and winding paths separating larger villas throughout the hotel.

The gated entrance to the resort opens up to a beautiful protected mangrove jungle that encircles the entire property. The lush greenery of the ecosystem provides a stunning foil to the darker tones of the hotel itself, with its black floors and wooden paneling. These earthy, cooling colors make the brilliant blue of the Caribbean Sea just even more stunning.

The calm of Nizuc begins in the almost cavernous lobby, whose semi-open-air design offers beautiful views of the Caribbean and elegantly designed artificial water fixtures. The entire resort has a zen quality and a sense of centered stillness.

Rooms in the main building are set amongst three primary floors, with views of either the Caribbean or the mangrove jungle. The floor-to-ceiling windows in either room offer breathtaking vistas, and if you’re lucky, you may get a room with an infinity plunge pool. We also love the enormous rainfall showers and freestanding bathtubs that are the very picture of relaxation.

For folks seeking more seclusion, check out the various villas throughout the property, many of which are set within private gardens complete with an infinity pool and waterfall. Finally, residence suites at the eastern end of the property offer sweeping ceilings and expansive windows for idyllic sunrise and sunset viewing.

While rooms are enormous and undoubtedly luxe, you’ll want to spend most of your time at Nizuc in the great outdoors. With three large infinity pools and two large beaches (one for adults only), water activities are the main draw of Nizuc. Of course, those activities can also include sipping on a margarita at the swim-up bar. For those looking for something a little more active, you’ll find kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and snorkeling gear at the beach.

If you’re finding yourself a little pruney from extended periods in the water, you might want to check out the impressive fitness center tucked into the massive 30,000-square-foot spa. With both a studio—ideal for yoga or barre classes—and a well-equipped gym, plenty of workouts

can be had. If that’s not enough, Nizuc also boasts turf tennis courts, which can be lit for evening play.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can recharge at one of six on-site restaurants, with cuisines ranging from Asian to Italian to modern Mexican. And for a nightcap, check out Havan Lounge, a cigar lounge with an impressive range of Caribbean rums.

Whether you’re in Cancun for business, pleasure, or some combination thereof, your stay will be immeasurably enhanced by a stay at Nizuc.
