Reconnect with Nature at Primland, Auberge Resorts Collection in Virginia

The Blue Ridge Mountains are undeniably beautiful in their own right. But nowhere are they more breathtaking than from Primland, Auberge Resorts Collection, a perfectly situated, beautifully hidden 54-room estate set upon 12,000 acres of private land in the highlands of

Virginia. This bucolic paradise, tucked away from what feels like the rest of the world, may just be the ideal setting to reconnect not only with nature and your loved ones but also with yourself.

Located about two hours north of Charlotte, North Carolina, and just over five hours southwest of Washington, D.C., the mountain estate of Primland—recently inducted into the Auberge family of hospitality—stands at the ready to welcome guests with its signature hospitality and down-home charm.

Getting to Primland is, admittedly, something of an odyssey. But 20 minutes after passing the first Primland sign, you’ll happen upon—seemingly out of nowhere—the majestic Lodge, which serves as the heart of the property. Check-in takes place in what feels like a cozy family room, where a team of friendly concierges stands at the ready to offer a welcome beverage, a map of the impressive grounds (complete with hiking trails), and a key to your room, which may either be located in the Lodge itself or in one of several different cabins, cottages, or tree houses.

In the Lodge, you’ll find the most direct access to not only two on-site restaurants (Leatherflower and the 19th Pub) but also the spa, fitness center, observatory, theater, and golf course. We can’t get enough of the Great Hall with its soaring ceilings, roaring double fireplaces, and two-story wine room. If you’re lucky, you may find yourself in the Celestial Suite, located in the beautiful observatory itself. If you’re looking for a little more privacy, head over to one of several cottages, located near the lodge and within walking distance of the golf course. Or, if you’re with

a larger group, check out a mountain home, some of which are fully secluded from the rest of the property and capable of accommodating not only a family but several generations.

Our absolute favorite option in Primland comes in the form of the Tree House Suites. There are five of these beautiful suites located across the property, each of which offers a private sanctuary from not only the rest of the resort but seemingly the rest of the world. Rustic log cabin vibes meet modern elegance, with stunning wooden architecture, and a complimentary fabulous in-suite audio immersive wine experience. wood-burning fireplaces, and truly, the best view of the mountains that your money could buy. The two newest Tree House Suites also offer incredible hot tubs on their very own private decks (upon which you should absolutely enjoy an outdoor shower).

While it may be difficult to tear yourself away from the sanctuary that is your own room, Primland offers almost too much to explore. Some activities are seasonal, like hunting and kayaking, while others are year-round, including horseback riding and ATV tours.

Of course, if you’d rather explore Primland on your own, there are several stunning trails to help you appreciate the true majesty of the property au naturel. Many of those trails circumvent the stunning on-property golf course, which enthusiasts simply cannot miss. And once you’re done traversing the property, head to either the Lodge or one of the many Primland dining options for well-deserved victuals and beverages.

So whether you’re headed to Primland for a honeymoon, a baby moon, a family vacation, or just some classic Emerson-esque self-discovery, there’s truly something for everyone at this magical resort.
