Coastal luxury: a concept epitomized by Southern California’s Santa Monica, where sophisticated yet laid-back atmospheres intersect. Formerly known as the Le Merigot Hotel, the building has been transformed into an impressive Autograph Collection stay. From the moment you step through the white-washed entrance, you are embraced by an atmosphere brimming with elegance. Curated by esteemed architect Gulla Jónsdóttir and her team, the lobby is intentionally orchestrated to feel like a breath of fresh air: woven fibers and soft linens seamlessly mesh with sleek, polished surfaces, contemporary art pieces, and minimalist decor. An artists-in-residence program is in the discussion, where ceramicist-led workshops will take place, adding a creative appeal.

Beyond the expansive two-story lobby, the floor-to-ceiling windows serve as doors leading to the upper outside deck. Guests can relish views of the lower levels, adorned with fire pits and welcoming lounge seating. Lush greenery decorates the walkways, while eye-catching coral accents infuse vibrant hues into both the exteriors and boho-chic interiors.

Inside its 175 guestrooms and suites, modern coastal motifs flush these fashionable chambers. Sand-toned carpet and wallpapers harmonize with suede sea grass-green bed frames and wavy, golden-hued light fixtures, collectively crafting an elevated beachside ambiance. For those eager to savor the scenic vistas of Santa Monica Pier from their accommodation should consider booking the Ocean View King or Suite, ensuring they make the most of the prime location.

Regarding the culinary experience, the on-site restaurant, Marelle, occupies the mezzanine level, boasting an exquisitely designed space that echoes the Mediterranean-influenced ambiance synonymous with SoCal. Once the eatery is in operation, we’re anticipating a menu of refreshing, spritz-like cocktails and seafood-inspired dishes to delight guests.

While Santa Monica Beach lies just footsteps away, guests can opt to indulge in a glittering turquoise lido, offering them the choice between a day by the ocean or lounging poolside. Whichever option you choose, you’re destined to bask in the warm California sunshine and soak in the essence of barefoot luxury. Although there’s an emphasis on relaxation at Sandbourne, you won’t want to miss getting your body moving at the indoor-outdoor state-of-the-art fitness center tucked beneath the hotel—a brand new Technogym equipment and a full-blown yoga and Pilates studio await.

As whispers of Sandbourne Santa Monica’s opening become widely known, it’s clear that this Ocean Avenue gem will transcend the traditional role of a hotel. It’s poised to become a vibrant hub where locals and tourists converge for exquisite dining experiences, captivating artist activations, or simply to immerse themselves in the allure of coastal luxury.
