Guests can find Six Senses Fiji on Malolo Island, an area that offers soft white sandy beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and hidden waterfalls. The resort stretches across a beautiful bay surrounded by lush vegetation.

The resort’s architecture blends contemporary design with Fijian tradition. Villas have thatched roofs, private swimming pools, and outdoor showers and baths. Six Senses believes that wellness is a way of life, and each location explores this in a way that is true to its local traditions. Wellness is incorporated into food menus, accommodation design, and detox programs. It also intersects with their sustainability initiatives.

This is why the villas have been thoughtfully arranged to optimize sleep with handmade mattresses and temperature-regulating pillows. They opt for soft cotton materials rather than anything acrylic. The team can also set up sleep tracker devices and they offer guests complimentary access to a jet lag app to make it easy to adjust to the time zone.

No stay at Six Senses would be complete with a long visit to the spa, and many of the treatments are locally-inspired. The Fijian Bobo Massage includes warm poultices of Fijian herbs that were handpicked from the spa’s garden. And the body wrap uses a Fijian sea grape mask to detox and moisturize the skin. The ingredients and techniques showcase the best that the tropical paradise has to offer.

After a long massage, the spa is a lovely place to stay for a while. The outdoor area is serene with an herbal sauna, steam room, plunge pools, and waterfall showers. Guests can enjoy the peace and quiet in the relaxation area or shop for their new herbal obsession in the retail area.

Dining also plays a role in the Six Senses wellness emphasis. The restaurants use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, many of which come from the resort’s herb garden and farm. At TeiTei, guests can also enjoy a stone oven-baked pizza while watching a movie in the outdoor theater.

The main restaurant, Tovolea, is right off the beach and offers Pacific dishes like kokoda and coconut cream ceviche. It is here that guests also enjoy Six Senses’s impressive breakfast spread including pastries, tropical fruits, and fresh honeycomb. At breakfast, guests are invited to try the “Rocket Fuel,” a morning digestive shot that is infused with everything from oranges to garlic.

You can see the rocket fuel concoction in person on your way to get your complimentary ice cream at The Deli. Ice cream flavors rotate every week to include fruity sorbets or unique combos like the ginger and honeycomb.

Guests should be sure to take advantage of the gorgeous island with guided experiences, including Six Senses’s exceptional surfing program. The resort is just a short boat ride away from several world-class reefs, and instructors are equipped to teach surfers of all levels. For those who prefer to casually watch surfing, they can hop on a boat, listen to music, and eat tropical fruit at the iconic Cloudbreak, which is the site of major surf competitions.

Ocean lovers are also invited to snorkel around the island with Coral Gardeners, a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing coral reef restoration projects and research. Guests can join marine biologists to clean coral planting sites and spot turtles and reef sharks.

Above ground, Six Senses is also leading the research and conservation efforts around the critically endangered Fijian Crested Iguanas. The resort runs Iguana Spotting tours in the evening to teach guests about these critters and find them in the trees. Guests can also purchase the adorable plush iguana dolls in their rooms, with all contributions going to conversation programs.

Six Senses hotels remind us that wellness can’t exist without sustainability, because it inspires us to care for all living things in addition to ourselves. This is especially relevant in Fiji, where respecting the planet and the ocean is a major part of the local culture.
