This Cocktail Den on a Storied Street in FiDi is a Nautical Haven for Spirit Exploration

Set the scene.

Stone Street, dating back to New York City’s Dutch colonial era in 1624, has long been an essential artery for the city’s bustling port system. As the first paved street in New Amsterdam, it has withstood 400 years of history. Over time, it’s metamorphized from a quiet warehouse district to a vibrant FiDi corridor.

The Bedford Stone Street is an ode to that evolution, with an atmosphere that conjures the elegance of 1930s ocean liners and modern yachts. Designed by Daddo Bogich and Atomic Hospitality Group, interiors incorporate antique brass details, plush custom sofas, and nautical artifacts–like a vintage divers’ helmet and a WWII Liberty ship engine signal device.

The ambiance is enhanced by a thoughtfully curated playlist, fusing b-side rock ‘n’ roll with cumbia, afrobeat, and reggae tunes to shift the mood each evening.

What can we expect from the food?

This culinary-inclined cocktail den draws inspiration from The Bedford Stone Street’s sister venue in Brooklyn, offering a refined twist on American seafood.

Everything is prepared from scratch, from the stocks to the breads to the aiolis, confits, and pickles, ensuring the highest quality in every bite.

Fresh oysters by the half or full dozen are coveted, with just three variations to choose from: Sweet Petites from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; Mintersweets from Minter Bay, Washington, that are sweet, briny, and mild; and Oysters Charleston-Style–charbroiled with housemade shallot butter.

Blue Crab Beignets served with “Flamin’ Cajun” remoulade and Artichokes ala Romana atop a bed of sunflower confit and black garlic aioli are ideal for sharing.

Hearty, vibrant dishes emulate classic surf-and-turf, exemplified by the Seabass ala Plancha—topped with chili crisp and allium briar atop a bed of charred leek and fennel broth–as well as the Grilled Flank Steak—masterfully prepared with house chimichurri, crispy shallots, and the renowned Old Bay fries.

Tell us about the drinks.

Imbibers are brought on a journey to far-flung corners of the globe, with Beverage Manager and head Mixologist José María Dónde as their captain. A celebration of world travel, the beverage program at The Bedford Stone Street revolves around an extensive collection of spirits.

Guests can sample rums and cane spirits from every port, including unique varieties like rhum, cachaça, and clairin, and an impressive array of 80 agave spirits from 14 Mexican states. This extensive library of spirits is complemented by a range of whiskeys, gins, and cordials–all of which set the stage for dynamic mixed libations.

A standout is the Ondatrópica, a tropical spin on the Shakerato that combines Casa Lotos Sotol, Suyo Pisco, pineapple, Champagne vinegar, and a touch of nori for a refreshing, umami-rich finish.

Those seeking more complex, richer flavors should choose La Isla Bonita–a milk punch featuring San Cosme mezcal and Wray & Nephew Jamaican rum infused with Greek yogurt, yuzu, and clarified rooibos tea.

Duchess of Savoy is a take on the Adonis: a classic cocktail inspired by the hit Broadway show created at Waldorf-Astoria New York in the 1880s. Dónde’s is crafted with a sophisticated blend of Pasubio Vino Amaro, Cocchi Chinato Barolo, and Rhum J.M, elevated with Aquavit Brennivin and orange bitters, resulting in a deep, bittersweet elixir.

Meanwhile, the Martini Transatlántico is a polished interpretation of the classic martini. Bordiga Occitan Gin, Roku Gin, a sherry blend, and orange bitters, result in a smooth, aromatic finish.
