This Design-Centric Boutique Hotel in Morocco’s City Core Is a Peaceful Retreat

Located on a quiet street near the Majorelle Garden, Maison Brummel Majorelle is an eight-room oasis. The property, which opened in early 2023, was created by Christian Schallert. In a city filled with maximalism, it stands out with minimalistic details, making it feel like you’re stepping into a personal residence rather than a hotel.

Completely hidden from view without any signage, the unprepossessing peaceful retreat almost seems as though it’s not meant to be found. However, once you step inside the terracotta-hued building, you might never want to leave. Unlike other Moroccan hotels, the property is free of bold mosaics, brass detailing, or tassels. Here, one will find a sunken courtyard, lush greenery, and lots of natural light. Design classics like the Egon Eierman chairs and Ingo Maurer’s paper lamp complement the modern aesthetic.

The gentle, earth-toned color palette throughout the space was designed to give the eyes a rest from the business of the city. Each of its rooms hosts private balconies, manicured gardens, and outdoor terrazzo bathtubs, which make them comforting accommodations for up to 16 guests at a time. Local craftsmen contributed to the rooms, too, with the touches of handmade rugs, carpets, and wood furniture.

All in all, it’s arguably Morocco’s chicest new stay.
