The recently opened Apotheke NoMad is one of Manhattan’s coolest new haunts to grab a drink. While the brand’s award-winning posts in NYC’s Chinatown and Los Angeles have gotten a lot of praise for their individuality, it’s their debut in New York City’s NoMad neighborhood that sets itself apart from its two sister locations.
For one, it has a penthouse lounge and a year-round rooftop terrace — a first for the brand.
Head into Apotheke NoMad’s ground-level speakeasy and immediately, to the side, is an elevator — you take it up to the 11th floor. Once you make it up there, you’re greeted by a Rose Aurora marble bar that lights up from underneath. Behind it, a cabinet-like back bar displays the bar’s colorful assemblage of infused spirits, fresh herbal tonics, and homemade bitters. Schemes of dusty rose, rich wood, and gold accents swath the space. An eye-catching feather-shaped glass chandelier hovers over bargoers.
Opposite the counter and bifurcated by an unmarked passageway from the elevator to the terrace, plush blue and yellow velvet chairs huddle around round white marble tables; they form a convivial vignette that encourages both cocktail consumption and a conversation with cohorts to go with it. To the side, stained-glass windows with intertwining vine-like patterns proffer a moody ambiance.
Head out to the outdoor terrace and you’ll be privy to views of the Empire State Building and Madison Square Park. While enjoying a summited vantage point of Manhattan (a retractable atrium coming soon), you will be surrounded by plants, botanicals, and herbs (a nod to the Apotheke brand).
The bar’s concept is just as fetching as its design. The theme serves as a capsule into the apothecaries of yesteryear — this, in turn, has spawned head mixologists at the brand to curate a medicinally inspired cocktail menu built around ingredients with restorative and functional properties.
And on that note, if you need a drink recommendation, the Greenseer is exceedingly tasty. It blends Mezcal, Tequila, Honeydew, Spirulina, and Micro Bulls Blood.
