Where to Visit in April

Finally, we’re springing forward to April. Bring on the warmer weather and the later evenings. Best of all, it means summer is inching closer. Read below to find out where you should visit and stay next month.


Madeira, Portugal

With its lush terrain and idyllic provincial Portuguese hamlets peppered across its four islands, Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that deserves your attention. 

Why visit in April? In April, the town of Ponto do Sol hosts the Regional Sugar Cane Fair, which celebrates the eponymous crop, from cakes to drinks to stations where you can cut sugarcane first-hand.

Puglia, Italy

Elect to base yourself around Fasano, which conveniently puts you an arm’s length away from Alberobello — a UNESCO Heritage Site due to its abundance of Trulli-style buildings — and Martina Franca — the immediate area’s largest town, which is flush with historical piazzas and charming cafes. 

Why visit in April? If you want to travel to Italy sans crowds but with decent weather — amicable sweater weather, to be exact — head to the country’s idyllic southern region of Puglia in April.
