Where to Visit in July

In the spirit of summer, here are our favorite places to visit in July.

Nevis

Nevis, a small quiet island in the Caribbean Sea, is known for its idyllic sandy beaches, including palm-lined Pinney’s Beach and secluded Oualie Beach, eye-catching Georgian architecture, and enchanting villages of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Why visit in July? The Nevis Mango Festival — a culinary extravaganza where Nevis’ 44 varieties of the beloved fruit take center stage with an entire weekend dedicated to it — begins on June 30 and runs until July 2.

Where to Stay: The Golden Rock Inn is a scenic jungle retreat nestled in the dense tropical forest suffusing Mount Nevis’ slopes. Formerly a sugar mill, the intimate resort boasts 11 bungalows outfitted in either original concrete architecture or beach-inspired interiors, and contemporary pops of candy-colored decor (think royal blue walls and bubble gum pink furnishings).

Chicago

The Windy City, like many of the Midwestern metropolises, absolutely thrives during the summer months. From the peak weather conditions allowing for prime sunbathing at Lake Michigan to the knockout culinary scenes at the Taste of Chicago food festival to the highly anticipated Lollapalooza music celebration each year, Chicago aces summertime.

Why visit in July? Keeping busy during the long summer days and nights is easy in Chi-Town, especially with lively festivals such as the Windy City Smokeout, where famed country stars, including Zach Bryan, Darius Rucker, and Zac Brown Band, perform alongside a top-notch barbeque cookout from July 13-16.

Where to Stay: Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s popular Loop neighborhood, Pendry Chicago, is set within the iconic 1920s-era Carbide & Carbon Building. The Art Deco-style exteriors made of polished black granite, black marble, and bronze trim pay homage to the landmark building, while its interiors reflect a modern traditional design.

Mykonos

It’s well known that Greece’s Cycladic Islands are the ultimate summertime vacation spot. Turning our attention to Mykonos, dubbed the “Ibiza of Greece,” mega-clubs, including Scorpios, Lío Mykonos, and beach parties at Nammos and Principote attract the world’s glitterati. However, the party isle duals as a quiet seaside enclave with quieter beaches such as Agios Sostis and Lia.

Why visit in July? There’s nothing more alluring than summering in Mykonos: an endless streamline of beach club soirées and sun-drenched days while overlooking the entrancing Aegean Sea.

Where to Stay:  Cali Mykonos, which overlooks the Aegean with its private beach, is an exclusive luxury villa hideaway on Kalafati Beach. The sprawling 110-meter saltwater infinity pool gives way to sweeping views of the Mykonian landscape. A fleet of yachts and speed boats stand ready, awaiting guests to ride over to neighboring islands like Tinos and Paros.

Washington D.C.

Home to far more than the USA’s political scene, the nation’s capital is a mecca of world-class dining, drinking, art, and more. Our curated guide to Washington D.C. tells you all you need to know about planning your next trip to the District of Columbia.

Why visit in July? With the nation’s independence on July 4th, the fireworks in DC are out of this world.

The best spot to watch is from the National Mall, or from across the Potomac.

Where to Stay: Situated in the heart of DC, Eaton DC is a restorative boutique hotel with an artistic influence. Mid-century modern interiors dress spacious guest quarters: wide-plank hardwood floors, earth-toned vintage rugs, and gallery picture walls add a creative touch.

Sonoma County, California

Northern California’s Sonoma County is renowned for its notable wine country — which includes Ferrari-Carano Vineyards, Matanzas Creek Winery, and Buena Vista Winery — plus rich historical sites such as the 19th-century Mission San Francisco Solano and the central colonial-era Sonoma Plaza.
