Every Room Is a Villa at This Luxe St. Barth Hotel

Hotel Le Toiny is a hyper-luxe boutique stay on the Caribbean’s chicest island, St. Barth. The intimate lobby, where you experience your first ‘bonjour’ from a friendly team member with a French-tethered accent, is an indoor-outdoor space with a compelling vantage point of the spellbinding sea below. In between are an alfresco restaurant (we’ll get to the details later) and a vanishing-edge pool that disappears into a descending hillside, watching over the sea-level hamlet of Anse de Toiny.

Fourteen French colonial-tinged villas dot this sea-facing morsel of hillside. Each equips an open floor plan and a private infinity pool. Vaulted-beamed ceilings, cream-cum-sand-hued furniture, plus wood detailing bedeck interiors. It’s a small hotel with big rooms—and that’s one of its greatest appeals. You know you’re staying at the ‘right place’ when every accommodation is a suite (c’est la suite life).

The hotel’s beach club is a 20-minute walk below (or a five-minute shuttle ride): a restaurant serving lunch, a pool, and a lounge chair-dotted patio gazing out at the ruffling Caribbean Sea. Order a cocktail at golden hour, and it’ll seem like all your off-island worries have been resolved (at least for now).

Need a spa day? Well, there’s no need to move a muscle as the masseuse comes to you. Elemis massage, manicures, and hot-shell concoctions comprised of lava shells are for your choosing, all performed in the comfort of your room. If you need to quench your thirst for a workout, the ocean-view gym, equipped with personal training sessions, will more than do the job (calories burn faster when a view is involved). Yoga and Pilates classes are available at the beach (hot yoga, but make it au naturelle).

While lunch awaits at the beach club, the open-air Restaurant Le Gaiac serves Mediterranean cuisine with isle-infused flavors. With more than 300 varieties, the wine list here is one of St. Barth’s most impressive. The hotel bar is next door—the Caribbean rum punch or a litchi martini are musts.

And there’s more on the horizon: Regarding accommodations, in addition to the current 22 villa count, the hotel has 13 private residences.
