The city of Yountville, California is charm personified, which immediately sets the standards high for its eponymous hotel. And luckily, Hotel Yountville more than lives up to the expectation. This beautiful little boutique hotel, set at the very entrance of town, is the perfect welcome into the heart of Napa Valley.
Just ninety minutes outside of San Francisco, Yountville is perhaps best known for its almost comical concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants, award-winning tasting rooms, and sweeping vineyard vistas. And against this backdrop, it’s easy to imagine a hotel that is a bit…well, pretentious. But nothing could be further from the truth at Hotel Yountville.
Built from local wood, featuring Napa river rocks, the lodge-like feel of Hotel Yountville hearkens more to an upscale bed and breakfast than a snobby hotel. But make no mistake—there is no lack of luxury in this 80 room and suite property. Check-in takes place in the central building, which houses both the lobby as well as a comfortable living room-esque sitting room and bar. Once you’re properly welcomed with a glass of bubbly, head on over to your room, located in one of several nearby wood and stone edifices just a few feet away.
As for your room, prepare to be swept away into the country home of your dreams. Broad wooden beams, a roaring fireplace, and a comfortable chaise at the foot of the bed are the makings of a room that you won’t want to leave. We love the neutral color palettes and abundance of natural light from large windows (some rooms come complete with a balcony or patio, too). And it’s only made better with the addition of a graciously appointed bathroom, complete with soaking tub and enormous showers with enviable water pressure.
The luxury doesn’t stop in the hotel’s stately rooms, however. Hotel Yountville boasts perhaps one of the most delightful spas in town, available exclusively to hotel guests. Treatments include
massages, facials, and full body treatments, and leverage a wide range of essential oils and poultices (I was a big fan of the mustard oil option). If you’d prefer to simply lounge by the pool, head on over to the heated cypress-lined outdoor pool—the centerpiece of the property—available to guests all year round. Alternatively, a small yet fully-outfitted gym is a fabulous place to work up a sweat.
If you’re looking to explore the surrounding city of Yountville—and indeed, there’s a lot to explore—grab one of the property’s bikes and take a ride around town. Be sure to head over to the Chandon tasting room, just over a half a mile away from the property. And thanks to that proximity, you’ll have no problem indulging in a boozy brunch at Chandon or some (or several) sparkling sips.
Venture out north a little further, and you’ll find stunning wineries like nationally-renowned Faust Winery in St. Helena, set in a beautiful former farmhouse turned Victorian mansion (decorated, unironically, in a Faustian style). Alternatively, head south to the city of Napa, and check out the veritable cornucopia of tasting rooms and delightful eats. A personal favorite? Grab a sandwich from Loveski Deli at Oxbow Market and take it on the go as you go winery hopping.
Of course, you don’t have to leave Yountville—much less Hotel Yountville—for delicious eats. On property, check out Heritage Oak for their standout breakfast and brunch options. Later in the evening, you’ll find a condensed menu in the main lobby bar, including some delectable desserts that are the perfect way to end your Napa Valley day.
If you’re looking for a sophisticated, unpretentious, and yet decidedly luxurious place to call home during your trip to Yountville, Hotel Yountville is undoubtedly the place for you.
