There’s a certain “lifestyle” to Swingers, New York City––but it’s not what you think. Hailing from London, this swanky “crazy-golf” experience is unlike any mini golf you’ve done thus far.
From the street, it is not immediately evident why this mini golf is located in the heart of New York City’s NoMad, or even where the golfing takes place. Upon admittance through the red velvet ropes, golfers descend below the bustling city streets. A sloping stairwell lined with vintage black-and-white photos of celebrities gives way to a verdant basement, fit for Jay Gatsby himself.
Situated beneath the soon-to-open Virgin Hotel at 29th and Broadway, the sprawling 23,000-square-foot space exudes maximalism: each of the “crazy-golf” courses are lined with lush florals and greenery, and six cocktail bars built into every corner serve a plethora of colorful craft cocktails inspired by other Swingers locations in London and Washington, DC. Below diamond chandeliers, four elevated street food vendor concepts––Miznon, Fonda, Sauce Pizzeria, and Mah Ze Dahr Bakery––operate between velvet sapphire-dyed dining banquettes. A 1920s-inspired English “golf clubhouse” takes center stage, adorned with emerald mosaic tiles and brass detailing.
Snap a pic in the rotating photo booth or pose atop the vintage golf cart, complete with vinyl cushions and a seafoam paint coating. Then, grab a club and begin your journey along one of the three courses: Waterwheel, Clocktower, or Windmill. No round is complete without reinforcements from the designated “drink caddy.”
Once the nine rounds are complete, golfers have the opportunity to spin the grand prize wheel, which grants whoever gets a hole in one during the last round anything, ranging from free entry to a free beer. The prizes can even be redeemed at a later date, and never expire.
The experience at Swingers New York City is one that will ensure anyone who plans on going, comes.
