The 9 Prettiest Restaurants in Washington D.C.

In our nation’s fine capital, dining institutions are places to see and be seen (while indulging in cuisines from around the world, of course). As a destination city for denizens from around the world, D.C.’s restaurants are eager to show off their food, wine, and aesthetics. We’ve rounded up just a few of the prettiest restaurants in Washington, D.C.

CAUSA/AMAZONIA

Tucked in an unassuming alley (literally), CAUSA/AMAZONIA is a love letter to Peru in every sense. Start downstairs at Michelin-starred CAUSA with its light, airy, and earthy decor (and stunning tasting menu), then head upstairs for the moody lighting and jewel tones of AMAZONIA.

Ilili

Lebanese flavors (and decor) abound at Ilili located in the trendy Wharf district of D.C.. While you’ll be beckoned in by the endlessly instagrammable blue and white floors, bird cage light fixtures, and yes, a fountain in the midst of the restaurant, you’ll stay for the outstanding mezze and delicious cocktails.

The Dabney

Another one of D.C.’s Michelin-starred restaurants is one of its most visually striking. In order to let the stunning plates do most of the talking, the space itself is minimalist and understated. Exposed brick, dark wood, and dark blue velvet make the mid-century Dabney feel like everything D.C. is supposed to be.

Moonraker

Set on the rooftop of the Pendry Hotel in D.C., the Moonraker offers stunning views of the Anacostia river from its terrace, as well as stunning decor in its indoor space. The stunning central lighting, composed of dozens of hanging bulbs (and paper cranes), illuminates the intimate space.

Vera

In D.C.’s industrial Ivy City neighborhood is the chic Mexican-Lebanese fusion concept, Vera. The semi-open roof is adorned with hanging plants, and well-placed lighting just illuminates wooden fixtures, ceramics, and cerulean blue accent tables. We’re obsessed with the brunch service, especially on a fall day.

River Club

Just opened River Club is easily one of the most stunning spaces in D.C., what with decor that was largely custom-made in Beirut, including a stunning piece of stained glass artwork on the ceiling. You could get lost in the geometry of the tiled floors, and then sink into velveteen seating in terracotta, pink, and light green. We’re particularly fond of the roaming liquor-serving cart.

Bazaar

Set in the Waldorf Astoria in D.C., Jose Andres’ imposing Bazaar evokes feelings of a true bazaar from days past. The sweeping, soaring, bi-level space is a celebration of sights, sounds, and tastes, and we love the open design of the restaurant that makes your stomach feel a little roomier than it may be.

Vagabond

At this vibey, global surf-inspired restaurant in Adams Morgan, each of the three levels offers a different experience. Head upstairs for a breezy view of the neighborhood with bright blue and white accents, or stay on the main level and enjoy the architectural bar. Downstairs, there’s a speakeasy that pays homage to Patrick Swayze.

Seven Reasons

This City Center stunner has a space inspired by the Amazon, with a massive handmade stone art piece – inspired by the Tepui Mountains of Venezuela – engulfing the restaurant’s elevator and DJ booth. The transparent marble bar complements red brick walls, lush greenery, and a waterfall.
