This Dreamy Capri Boutique Hotel Boasts Breathtaking Faraglioni Views

Sometimes, simplicity can outdo all the frills in the world.

Hotel La Tosca is marketed as a “simple” and affordable hotel. While it does fit the description in terms of cost, the hotel offers so much more than wallet friendly accommodations.

The charming one-building boutique hotel is a welcoming, independently-owned property. The building has been in the family of current owner Ettore Castelli since around 1900 and was rented out — it became a hotel run by another family in 1950 following renovations before Castelli took over operations in 1996.

La Tosca lets the beauty of the Faraglioni, Certosa di San Giacomo (Charterhouse of St. Giacomo) and the sea shine while offering immaculate, comfortable rooms in a converted island home featuring vaulted ceilings, arches and whitewashed walls. The bright interior matched with tiled flooring feels relaxing and refreshing — especially after a long day spent at a nearby beach club under the hot sun. The understated decor, accompanied by comfortable beds and subtle touches like florals, fits naturally into the Italian island’s landscape and atmosphere.

Some rooms feature balconies and views with the water in the distance while others face the courtyard — price varies depending on those factors and based on the time of year. The high season in Capri runs between May and September each year, though April and October tend to be relatively busy, too, per Castelli. When I visited in August, Capri and Anacapri were bustling with crowds.

Located a short walk from Capri’s Piazzetta, La Tosca is an ideal option for first time visitors to the Italian island but one that is definitely worth a return visit (and another, and another). But not just because of its location and price. Castelli has what seems like encyclopedic knowledge of what to do on the island, where to eat and how to get around.

One of the perks of staying at La Tosca is Castelli’s expertise. He goes out of his way to help guests plan their trips – organizing reservations for activities and meals, giving guidance on what to do and when, connecting guests with tour guides and the like.

And La Tosca offers plenty of other amenities, too. Breakfast is included and offered daily in the room or on the hotel’s main terrace with views of the Faraglioni and consists of baskets of freshly baked pastries, yogurt, coffee — the list goes on (highly recommend the espresso). Plus, the hotel offers a commission-free currency exchange service, WiFi, towels to bring to the beach and water, soft drinks, wine, beer and limoncello for sale.

La Tosca also offers concierge service and can help with reservations for meals and beach clubs, car transfer, arrangement of babysitting, private cooking lessons, boat tours and more.
