This Upscale New Delhi Hotel Feels Like a Modern Palace

A modern grand dame hotel with soaring columns at its entrance, The Leela Palace New Delhi melds luxe contemporary fare with modern Indian regality.

Before we continue our review, let us preface with this: Any time you stay at one of The Leela Palace’s sumptuous hotels, you can always expect above par, incredible service, some of the best in Indian hospitality.

Master architect Edwin Luytens designed the hotel and its 254 guestrooms & suites, known to be some of the Indian capital’s most spacious. Sybarites will love the resplendent Presidential Suite, with its ornate-leafed ceilings, private spa room, and 24-hour butler as a part of The Leela Palace Service.

Those searching for Ayurvedic-tinged pampering can book a treatment at The Spa, with its wealth of rituals and healings individually conjured based on your energy type, whether that be Vatta, Pitta, or Kapha. Also available here are one-to-one yoga & meditation sessions, allowing you to start your day in Delhi enveloped in a ray of mindfulness.

The hotel’s dining scene is superb and eclectic:

Diners seeking Indian cuisine should eat at Jamavar: a high-end Indian restaurant chock full of flower-clad vases, floating tea lights, and intricate paisley sequences that draw inspiration from Kashmiri Jamavar shawls.

With its lofty setting and eye-catching buddha sculpture, those searching for sushi & Japanese dishes are due to enjoy hotel restaurant Megu.

The Asian outpost of upscale New York City restaurant Le Cirque, the chef here serves French-Italian cuisine amidst a candlelit setting (heed our advice and order the six-course tasting menu).

Imbibers and lovers of refined atmosphere can grab a post-dinner nightcap at The Library Bar. Chesterfield armchairs, leather furnishings, and wood panels populate the debonair space, which is stationed alongside a curated menu suffusing award-winning cocktails, wines, and whiskies.

And last but not least, it would be amiss not to share the hotel’s most luxe, crème-de-la-crème experience: an exploration of New Delhi’s endless high-end boutiques with a personal shopper while being driven around town in one of the hotel’s top-line BMWs.
