Napa Valley is home to decades-old vineyard estates and towns with Western-style main streets and quaint town squares. Lately though, some luxury hotels are bringing a dose of design-forward panache to Northern California Wine Country. Here are five we love, courtesy of journalist Devorah Lev-Tov. ⬇️🍷
Alila Napa Valley:
Alila took over the beloved Las Alcobas resort in St. Helena and turned it into their first Napa Valley property. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the 68 rooms feature expansive picture windows, bespoke Italian furnishings, and spa-like bathrooms. Acacia House restaurant and Spa Alila have a stylish look.
Solage, Auberge Resorts Collection:
A recent renovation of this Calistoga resort by Howard Backen and Studio Collective includes new restaurant Picobar, newly built cottage suites with private outdoor patios, and a revamp of rooms and public spaces. And don’t miss the stunning spa and its multiple mineral pools.
Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort:
A mainstay on Calistoga’s main drag, this hotel dating to the 1950s underwent a recent makeover by SB Architects and EDG Design that retains its retro appeal but brings it into the 21st century with minimalist wood furnishings, pops of bright color, and locally made ceramics by NBC Pottery. Check out the new restaurant, large-scale murals by the mineral pools, and the vintage teal roadster out front.
Milliken Creek Inn:
This 11-room hideaway got a modern update with sleek custom-made furnishings in a neutral color palette, modern lighting, and curated art. The lobby now boasts a bar, and an adjacent deck has a new fire pit overlooking the Napa River.
R INN NAPA:
This family-owned boutique hotel in downtown Napa recently unveiled a second building with five soaring loft suites sporting floating wooden staircases, original artwork, and wet rooms with soaking tubs and rainfall showerheads. The sleek lobby lounge features a wall of glass windows, stunning chandeliers, ocean-colored Candy Chairs by Erba Italia, and a custom fireplace painted by San Francisco-based artist Caroline Lizarraga.
