This Brooklyn Restaurant Is a Caribbean Capsule

Tropical island life starts now. But this time, it’s in Brooklyn. Kokomo NYC, the ‘Big Apple’ promised land of Caribbean dishes, immerses guests into a joyous, passport-free vacation bliss with their flavorful cuisine, tantalizing tropical cocktails, and enticing celebrations.

The owners are hospitality savants. NYC native Ria, and nightlife guru Kevol met through a shared passion for unique culinary experiences. Sparks flew, and Kokomo was born. Together, they bring Brooklyn’s trendy Williamsburg lively Caribbean flavor by fusing Kevols event magic and Ria’s love of cuisine to create an unforgettable dining experience—transporting guests to the sounds, sights, and smells of the Caribbean.

Upon entering the restaurant, guests are invited to grab a seat at the beautifully crafted bamboo bar, before descending down the lush zinc staircase into the underground champagne room, awash with vibrant Caribbean sea hues. The ambience is truly enhanced by woven rattan light fixtures, casting a warm glow that complements the colorfully printed wallpapers adorning the entire space.

Drawing on the Caribbean’s rich agricultural heritage, the menu showcases ingredients such as scotch bonnet peppers, yams and cassava, and of course tropical fruits like mangoes and papayas.

Our favorite, as well as many others, has to be the Wah Gwaan Flatbread—a Caribbean twist on a classic NYC flatbread that left us speechless, and stuffed to the brim. The tangy scotch bonnet cilantro sauce really tied the dish together, giving it the perfect latin flair.

The taste of the tropics is further enhanced with plates like the Lentil Meatballs in Coconut Curry Sauce and the Island Pasta, featuring a medley of cremini Mushrooms and mixed peppers. On Sundays, indulge in “Sunday Drunch”, dinner-brunch favorites from open to close. The Sauteed Caribbean Bowl is a must have, with callaloo, ackee, and saltfish; it’s the ideal savory meal.

While the food certainly brings out the Caribbean flavors, the taste of the islands’ paradise is enjoyed with every sip of their handcrafted cocktails. From exquisite tropical notes to impeccable garnishes, each libation brings a relish of island lure right to your table.

For those who desire a beachy escape, sip on the Good Vibez, a refreshing tequila drink blended with passion fruit liqueur, zesty lemon and a touch of honey. Craving that pre-trip excitement feel?  Order the Take Flight—a delightfully tropical coconut rum cocktail that will lift your spirits and leave you with a smile. And of course, you can never go wrong with this fan-favorite signature drink: the Dark N’ Stormy, comprising Gosling’s Black Seal rum, lime juice, and ginger beer.

To sum it up, every moment at Kokomo’s is crafted for enjoyment, making it the ultimate destination for a vibrant dining experience that transports you straight to the sun-soaked shores of the Caribbean.
