Mexico City’s Colonia Roma neighborhood’s burgeoning design scene has caught much attention over the past decade. Famous street Calle Colima flaunts Beaux Art-style buildings housing inviting cafes, fashionable boutiques, and eye-catching galleries. Led to all the best haunts by local guide Rodrigo Salas, HAP Founder Brandon Berkson fell in love with the street. So much so that he felt the absolute need to do a 1, 2, 3 Destination Guide to Colonia Roma’s Calle Colima.
To Stay:
This is Mexico City’s hottest new boutique place of accommodation, right off Calle Colima’s main drag. Replete with impressive art and contemporary decor, the hotel hosts 17 rooms, plus an ambrosial restaurant called Cerrajeria (more below), underground speakeasy, nourishing spa, and outdoor terrace.
To Eat:
At this old-townhouse-turned-restaurant, diners first walk through a grand door with planters spooling lush fauna on both sides. Inside, oat-white walls and high ceilings with fashionable pendant lamps. Chef Elena Reygadas’ seasonal dishes blend Italian and Mexican flavors with brilliance — all the pasta is deliciously homemade.
This high-ceilinged space employs a tranquil interior full of verdant foliage and potted plants. Chef Armando is at the kitchen’s helm. Try the Tiradito de Kampachi — you won’t regret it.

Encasing boutiques, come-and-go exhibitions, plus art galleries, this concept house’s design is contemporary to its core. Our favorite architectural feature? The angular, wooden staircase that hugs the inside walls of the building’s towering foyer.
