Guatemala

The Central American nation of Guatemala is just south of Mexico. The country, while on the rise in terms of tourism, is most famous for its jade production, friendly people, Mayan pyramids, and coffee industry. At first visit, travelers will fall in love with the country’s volcanic landscapes that can be found all over. When planning an itinerary, if the wave-heavy Pacific Ocean or stunning Caribbean Sea doesn’t excite you, look into a lake trip. Lakes are pervasive in Guatemala: Our favorite is Lake Atitlan, which is encircled by Mayan villages and authentic eco-friendly accommodations.

If history is more your thing, then visit the Mayan Pyramids at Tikal or the colorful city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
