Costa Rica’s Hotel Nantipa is an Eco-Friendly Dream

With its perch on a picturesque stretch of palm-fringed sand, sustainable design, and refined-yet-effortless atmosphere, Hotel Nantipa feels right at home in the low-key beach town of Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of only five Blue Zones in the world. If you’ve ever wondered whether luxury can truly be laid-back, this boutique hotel answers that question with a resounding yes.

“Pura Vida” is more than just a state of mind, it’s a guiding ethos. Guests are greeted with fresh coconuts. Everything reads simultaneously breezy and unmistakably sophisticated. The decor is locally made in Costa Rica. And the pebbled pathways that lead around the property are edged in tropical foliage, which really gives off the impression of staying in the jungle.

The outdoor pool is framed by lush greenery and provides a scenic spot to take a dip. It’s also very quiet and peaceful (since most people opt to spend their days at the gorgeous beach).

And because vacation needs a bit of pampering, you’ll find an intimate well-being sanctuary with two treatment rooms and a curated menu of wellness therapies. More guest perks include mixology classes, yoga, and movie nights on the lawn.

Equally alluring are the 21 accommodations designed in an elevated eco-minimalist style. The Nanku Suites feature teak trundle beds, making them perfect for families or small group getaways. For a bit more privacy and panache, the stand-alone Ninta Bungalows boast palm rattan chairs, local art, and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open out to a secluded terrace with a hammock and plunge pool. The biophilic bathrooms have quartz countertops, river stones, and indoor-outdoor showers.

There are two brand-new, luxurious villas. Each touts three bedrooms, a contemporary kitchen, an open-plan living and dining room, stunning patio-pool setup, and 24-hour concierge service.

Even if you aren’t able to snag a reservation to stay, it’s worth popping over for sunset drinks or dinner at Manzu, a beachfront restaurant with khaki-hued poufs, hand-made wooden tables, fresh Costa Rican fare and creative signature cocktails that—like everything else at Hotel Nantipa—is located just steps from the azul tides.
