Small Business Saturday: Five Independent Boutique Hotels in the USA and Caribbean to Visit

In honor of Small Business Saturday (11/27), we’re shining the spotlight on independently-owned-and-operated hotels that American travelers can easily visit. ⬇️

Quintessence Hotel Anguilla

The nine-suite Anguilla property is owned by Geoffrey Fieger. Julian’s, the on-site eatery, is named for his son, while the boutique, Keenie’s Bikinis, is helmed by his wife, Keenie. Accommodations are spacious and elegant, complete with Turkish marble, deep-soaking tubs, a curated collection of Haitian artwork, and antique decor. The tranquil spa and sparkling infinity pool are added bonuses.

Caerula Mar Club

HGTV power couple Bryan & Sarah Baeumler purchased this previously abandoned Bahamas resort and transformed it into Caerula Mar Club. Today, the 10-acre property features 24 accommodations (18 suites and six private villas). Since the owners are HGTV stars, you can expect stunning accommodations with neutral color palettes and fun accents like black-and-white photos and cozy reading nooks.

The Vault Houghton

The 17-room Vault Hotel is owned and operated by Jennifer Julien, who pays homage to the building’s past life with its namesake giant vault and quirky aesthetic. Located in Houghton, MI, there are three themed room categories: Old Money (think: metallic and jewel tones aplenty), New Money (lots of clean lines and geometric patterns), and Found Money (edgy accents, patterns, and graphics). The exclusive, guests-only Counting Room resembles a classic speakeasy with its 19th century-era furnishings, antique chandeliers, and mood lighting.

Bluefields Bay Villas

Braxton and Debbie Moncure left their busy lives behind in Washington, D.C. to open Bluefields Bay Villas in Jamaica. The all-inclusive property features six villas spread across a mile-long stretch of sand. Each includes butler service, a personal chef, a private pool, and unrivaled sea views.

Dive Palm Springs

Dive Palm Springs is run by husband-and-wife team Dale & Brookleyn Fox. The 11-room property offers bright and airy accommodations with Serena + Lily furnishings, bespoke linens, and retro fridges. You can’t miss the Maurice Libbot-designed pool and surrounding rattan swing chairs.
