Hotel San Fernando (Mexico City, Mexico)
Boutique hotel group Bunkhouse has officially arrived in Mexico City with the premier of their brand-new stay, Hotel San Fernando. Situated in CDMX’s trendy Condesa neighborhood, the 1947-constructed-yet-revamped edifice features 19 rooms, an eclectic art program with oeuvres from local artists, and a breezy rooftop terrace. A nod to Mexico’s bold color schemes, expect punchy coral color-blocked walls, chromatic public spaces, and stained-glass windows with Art Deco details emblazoned in shades of emerald, dark turquoise, lavender, and ochre.
York Beach Surf Club (York, Maine)
A family-owned boutique hotel on Maine’s southern coastline that was at the vanguard of the East Coast’s 1960s surf scene, the York Beach Surf Club is fresh from a revamp that has brought forth a melding of modern minimalist Scandinavian style with the spirit of Maine’s traditional coastal architecture. The just-opened property features 52 brand new guest rooms and bungalows, a heated saltwater pool plus pool bar, and an oceanfront lawn space for their raw oyster and cocktail bar, the “Rolling Pearl,” housed in a fully restored vintage 1964 International Harvester milk truck.
Gran Hotel Mas D’en Bruno (Priorat, Spain)
A 90-minute drive from Barcelona in Spain’s winery-abundant Priorat region is the soon-to-debut Mas D’en Bruno. Vineyards ensconce the Southern Catalonian boutique hotel, which comprises two erstwhile estates that pack 24 suites. Amenities onsite include a full-service spa, an infinity pool, a library, two distinct bars, a historical private wine cellar for experiential tastings, a casual Bistro, and a double-concept Mediterranean restaurant.
Dawn Ranch (Sonoma County, California)
Sonoma County’s Dawn Ranch has reopened after a thorough refresh, with its 81 rooms & suites occupying renovated cottages and cabins; each one imbues a fusion of modernized, rustic, and contemporary capabilities. The eponymous spa hides behind a Japanese-inspired shade garden in a California-style bungalow suffusing a relaxing steam room, three treatment rooms with wood-paneled ceilings, an expansive deck equipped with four hand-crafted Japanese Ofuro soaking tubs made from redwood, a glass-ceilinged mahogany infrared sauna, and thermostatic outdoor showers. This is Athens’ hottest new high-end boutique hotel. The thoughtful design scheme here pays homage to the proximate Aegean and Mediterranean seas: nautical curves define its mold, and a subdued natural color palette slathers the interiors. For outstanding views of the Acropolis, guests can grab a drink at Apollo Palm’s Rooftop Cocktail Bar — if you go on the right day (and time), you could be privy to an open-air cinema playing a nighttime film or sunset party.
Azur Vancouver (Vancouver, Canada)
Located in Canada’s British Columbia province, Vancouver is often regarded as one of North America’s most livable cities: inter-connected parks, charming neighborhoods, sustainable architecture through and throughout, plus a winsome restaurant scene are a fraction of the reasons why. And now, it’s getting a hip new boutique stay that’s a member of Leading Hotels of the World, AZUR. Minois Hotel (Paros, Greece)
Located on the less-touristy Greek isle of Paros, this 44-suite member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World comprises cubist-shaped, whitewashed houses that befit the quintessential exteriors that come with Cycladic architecture. Other perks include a Mediterranean-style wellness program at onsite Aura Spa and two exceptional dining experiences brought to life by renowned Michelin-starred chef, Alexander Tsiotinis.
Americana Motor Hotel (Flagstaff, Arizona)
You know we love when hotels imbue a dose of nostalgia — and the brand-new Americana Motor Hotel provides just that (and more). Built in 1962 and situated on Route 66 in Flagstaff — the world’s first Dark Sky City due to its lack of light pollution that spawns extraordinary stargazing opportunities — the stay has been revamped with a retro-futuristic design.
