Indonesia is comprised of more than 17,000 (!) isles, which means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to island-hop. Bali, which has attracted sun-seekers and wellness enthusiasts for decades, is its most famous island. Here, you’ll also find several spiritual sites (such as Uluwatu Temple), rolling fields of rice paddies, incredible mountain vistas, and excellent wildlife spotting opps (Ubud Monkey Forest, which is home to more than 1,000 monkeys, is a popular spot amongst travelers). We’d be remiss not to mention Bali’s breathtaking beaches, which include Jimbaran Beach, Balangan Beach, and Bingin Beach. While Bali is beautiful, it’s not the only place worth exploring in Indonesia. The nation’s capital, Jakarta, is a massive city with vast architecture, a charming old town, modern shopping locales, and, of course, plenty of history. Jakarta is also home to several noteworthy museums, including the Jakarta History Museum, Museum MACAN (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara), Museum of Fine Art and Ceramics, and Taman Prasasti Museum.
