Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York Is Stateside French Luxury at Its Finest

The brand-new Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York is unbridled stateside French luxury. Full stop.

French art deco interior design permeates the eight-story Tribeca hotel, from its common areas to its 97 rooms. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio couples Tribeca’s modern industrialism with Parisian classicism (the latter serves as a hallmark of the Hotel Barrière brand).

The Lobby

You arrive at a red-brick façade (very NYC, yes), only to then shortly after enter a delicate, French-chic lobby: a large reception desk topped in rainbow onyx stone stands to the right, and to the back, vignetted furnishings wear exquisite hues of red, gold, and green, thoughtfully assembled to encourage guests to grab a coffee or read a magazine and stay a while, as if they were in their own living room.

The hotel imbues subtle French luxury all over; nothing is garish nor ostentatious, but rather flush with unstuffy elegance and class. Accommodations reinsert the narrative that while the hotel feels French, New York City-inspired touches find their way into the overall design. Rooms & suites’ entrances wear whimsical wallpaper displaying illustrations of iconic Tribeca haunts. As an homage to France’s hallmark lavender fields, the lavender paint swaths spaces, artfully complementing existent muted greens and creams, from furnishings to paint color, and bedding. Glitzy European-style chandeliers, plus Parisian-style decadent drapes and quilted headboards, rub shoulders with art deco-inspired furnishings, such as grand armoires and functional desks. Bathrooms are decked in white marble from head to toe, so stately they will drop your jaw at first sight.

Fouquet’s New York

The hotel’s eponymous restaurant, Fouquet’s New York, wears a punchy red and black interior, displaying a Manhattan-tinged reimagination of the brand’s signature Paris location’s aesthetic. Three-Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire helms culinary efforts here, offering Parisian brasserie fare: steak tartare, escargots, foie gras, sole meunière, and French Onion Soup (with an NYC twist, of course) are all on the menu.

Situated between Fouquet’s and the reception area is Titsou Bar, which invokes a 1920s Parisian dazzle. The marble-topped bar, candle-lit tables, draped windows, and art deco-style lampshades — many lathered in aubergine, amethyst, and dark green — spawn a moody atmosphere.

Also on the agenda is Par Ici, the hotel’s soon-to-open vegetarian restaurant.

In addition to a full-service Dogpound gym and an indoor pool lined with white marble, the hotel’s Spa Diane Barrière offers a medley of rejuvenating treatments. Renowned French skincare brand Biologique Recherche is one of the suppliers here — test them out for yourself, with the hotel’s Red Carpet Ready Facial: an age-defying facial therapy using transformative clinical grade products, sculpting techniques, and Biologique Recherche’s Microcurrent Remodeling Face Technology to bring lifting and toning to the next level.

All in all, Hotel Barrière Fouquet’s New York imbues pure French luxury all over, from its well-tailored service to its restaurant and bar to its rooms, and elegant lobby. While there are thoughtful New York City-inspired infusions into the design, the hotel feels like a successfully-executed emulation of the authentic-French chicness for which the brand is most known on the other side of the Atlantic.
